Mission Support and Giving Opportunities

Mission Support: What a Gift to PHI Means to our Residents
Presbyterian Homes has a long history of serving the needs of seniors, including the financial support of persons without adequate resources. In our entire history, no one has had to leave the PHI system of care because they could not pay for the care they need and deserve. We often measure the depth of this commitment by the number of people served and the millions of dollars applied to support these people. But the real story is how the ministry of PHI affects the lives of individual older persons and their families. One of the primary sources of inspiration are the letters we receive from individuals and family members who tell us what the ministry of PHI means to them. Three of these letters have been included to give you a first hand account of what the work of PHI means, and why it is worthy of your support.

Opportunities to Give
We hope you will join us in this important work. Below is a list of some of the most common funds donors support. We also work individually with donors to help them discover how they would like to help us fulfill our mission. There are a number of ways you can help:
PHI Charitable Care Fund
Even after careful planning and saving, some of our residents exhaust their personal finances and are unable to pay their living expenses. Since PHI was founded in 1927, we have never asked someone to leave because they were not able to pay for care. Last year, we provided more than $4.5 million in benevolent care to 499 residents. Your support can benefit a particular facility or help where it is most needed.

Capital Needs for Facilities
Various facilities are in need of everything from buses to transport residents to wheelchairs to exercise equipment and more. We can obtain a wish list for you of items for a specific facility.

Special Funds at Facilities
There are always special programs at each facility that benefit from the support of donors. These programs enhance the lives of our residents and help to make PHI facilities a caring place to live. Examples of these funds include a fine and performing arts fund, a garden fund, a scholarship fund and more.

Endowment Fund
Donors may choose to provide for the future of PHI or a specific facility by contributing to a fund that continues to grow its principle, while providing immediate support through interest payments.

Ways to Give
There are a number of ways to donate to PHI or one of our facilities. Contributions are tax-deductible according to IRS regulations.

Cash Gifts
Cash gifts provide immediate help for programs, services, and equipment. Gifts can be made with cash or personal check.

In-Kind Gifts
Contributions of products or services that are beneficial to the organization, such as equipment, artwork, food for an event, etc. are always appreciated.

Memorial and Honor Gifts
Memorial and honor gifts are a way to honor the memory of a special person or to acknowledge someone on an occasion, like a birthday or anniversary.

Gifts of Securities or Other Assets
Appreciated securities, real estate, art works, jewelry, or other assets can be sold or invested for the long-term benefit of PHI.

Planned Gifts
Special tax incentives may be available for donors who make a planned gift. This can be done simply through a bequest or another type of vehicle, like a gift annuity, charitable trust, life insurance, or pooled income fund. These gifts may offer a number of advantages, which include: income for life or a term of years to a donor and/or other beneficiary, such as a spouse or other family member; reduction of the donor's tax obligations as a result of a charitable income tax deduction; help to "unlock" income from highly appreciated, but low-yielding property, without incurring any capital gains tax; and save estate and gift taxes.

All donors who make PHI aware of their intentions to make a planned gift may become a member of the Legacy Club.
